It is way to early for Linden Lab to announce or even start thinking about what SL2, the ‘sequel’ to Second Life shall be called.
Its name will be very important, the name of Second Life has been cause for the funniest and most original commenters of all time to say hysterical things like ‘I don’t need a Second Life, because I have a real life’ or ‘People in Second Life don’t have a first life’.
Quite witty, I’m sure you’ll agree.
And even though I generally say something like ‘One life may be enough for you, I want more’, the name still did not give our world a very exciting and flash reputation.

Anyway, what should we call this new virtual online world?
Finding the right name that makes people curious, tells the real world that this will be the most interesting and cutting edge virtual online world since the dawn if mankind and is not just a place full of weirdos who only care about shopping and hanky panky, will be very important.
Or should they just call it Third Life?
Or Jo’s private little universe?
Or Pixelworld?
Or ‘That is another fine Mesh you got us into world’?
Let me know what you think it should be called!

“Your Life” because you can make of it whatever you want.
“VirtuaLife” for obvious reasons.
“SuperSim” or “SuperLife” because it will be SL on steroids!
Or simply “Second Life Improved” to maintain the name recognition and transition smoothly into the future.
Whatever it is, it sounds exciting!

For me as resident Second Life has not that bad tone at all, especial it is very much connected to the meme “Your World your imagination.”
But how about “Expanded Life” or “Worlds of Imagination”

I think it would be good, if the word “Life” would no longer used in the name of the new platform. This simply suggests too much, that the real life is replaced.
I would prefer the name that Linden Lab has used in the closed alpha period of SL: “Linden World”.

I agree with you on the use of the word life, but not on the use of the world Linden, LL doesn’t mean anything to outsiders
I also think that the word World isn’t big enough to describe SL.
It has to be bigger.
How about Universe?

I think the name of the new platform shouldn’t mean anything to outsiders. What is the meaning of the names Habbo Hotel, Gaia Online or EVE Online for outsiders? If Linden Lab will be as successful with the new platform as they plan this, then each name is good enough that can not be mocked by uninformed people.
“How about Universe?”
If LL adds a huge space with planets to the new platform and I can flight light-years away from the simulator surface, then “Universe” is ok. But if there is only landmass like in SL today, I would prefer the term “World”.
In addition, the word Universe would strongly reminiscent of Entropia Universe.
