It is a huge step forward from the previous avatars we’ve seen so far and the technology is really impressive.
This is something that will appeal to a lot of people, not just performers and artists who sing live in virtual worlds, but of course it is also hugely important to translate your RL expression into VR.
When looking at HiFy, we have to remember that it is still in very early Alpha stages but it appears to be moving along pretty well and if this footage is a good indication of what will be possible in Philip Rosedale’s new virtual world, we’re in for a treat.
Let’s hope that Ebbe Altberg, CEO of Linden Lab can borrow some of this cool stuff for the next Second Life as well, because personally, I can’t wait to use something like this in my virtual time travel adventures.
This screenshot, uploaded to Twitter a few hours ago is also a huge step forward from what has been shown to the public before.

Sorry to hear that, don’t understand why youtube just doesn’t mute the sound when that happens.
Anyway, the video shows a rather nice looking avatar sing along to Queen with facial expressions, sync mouth movements and all.

Ok, I used a VPN service and saw it. But the embedded version on your site was still blocked, even for US users.
Looks great. I just hope that is not Philip who is singing;) Still I am not a big fan of all that motion capture stuff. Will be great for live singers, but I actually don’t want to move while I sit at the computer. The really sexy stuff is the architecture of HiFi, the open source system and the cryptocurrency.

Hmmm… uncanny valley at its best. It looks a lot like Max Headroom (for those who remember it) with dumber expressions.
I agree with what Jerry said in his comment: the most interesting stuff about HiFi is its architecture and open source system. All this motion capture stuff is fascinating from a technology point of view, but for every day use? I am not convinced.

So stoner Philip thinks he can turn Hi Fi into a mecca for online musicians. That’s probably what he hopes will make it big. Excellent sound, realistic mouth movements hence the need for ideal speed rendering.
With that focus, it should drain SL dry of entertainers using the platform. I would imagine that Phil misses Paisley Beebe and will probably bring her back.
Meanwhile, SL is still run by Ebbe “The Skipper” Eggbert.

I imagine the main focus really is to get the facial expressions correct for where the money really is- in the sex animations.
