Ebbe, can you somehow magically give us graphics like these in Second Life please?
I know, I know, it is not (yet) possible, but I am sure that in the not to distant future all our games and virtual experiences will look this stunning.
And stunning is an understatement.

Nvidia has a pretty amazing demo that runs in real time on the current top of the line graphics cards called the “FaceWorks Demo” (http://www.geforce.com/games-applications/pc-applications/faceworks/videos). It will be 3 or 4 years before this is common place in Avatar games, but it is very realistic that our avatars SHOULD look like this one day soon.

Careful what you wish for, Jo. Increasing the quality of graphics to photo realism would raise the bar so much that only professionals would be able to create quality content. This is already happening in SL to some degree.

Professionalism is what we need most. I’m sick of amateurism. Just yesterday, while exploring “Hesperia of Templemore,” falls into many strange holes … there are too many errors in SL. The realism is minimal. The trees, plants and flowers are so strange and poorly made … and the graphic quality is horrible with Oculus VR…

Really depends on where you go and which Oculus you use though, but yes, there is still lots of bad and old stuff in SL.

@Jim, there is already pro made content in SL. However, raise the bar to the point that only pros will be able to create and you’ll kill SL

Indigo is right. I am far from being even semi professional, just pushing some prims around and having fun. It would be the time to leave Second Life if it gets to realistic.
At some point Second Life ist to me like Lego World and no one wants Lego to be realistic. It is the abstraction that makes it fun. Have a look at Nintendo games, they are way more fun because of the abstraction.
I think the biggest challenge for the new SL is to balance realism and easy content creation. You loose people on both sides if it is not done right.

Oh, come on … there is a human resources consultant predicting the future. It reminds me of the promises of my childhood, that my car would fly me to work!
But taken your post seriously, Second Life is not the “tool” for creating 3D product advertisements, use Maya, Cinema 4D or even Blender to do that. In my opinion it is a place to meet people around the world, share ideas and see things form a different perspective.

I have always thought the most fitting description for SL is a 3D social network.

The beauty of Sl and /or open sim is that any, be pro or just a nutshell, cant try to create their dreams.
So ill trade, even if i have a great put that allows to see me all as i wish, beauty by freedom.
If i wanted the best graphics and custom content i would stick with Bethesda and would be playing Silkryn, without putting a single dime to do that!

And LL even allows us to have a great function called derender or block, to not see the awful (in your eyes).
